Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the top-streamed track within 6 months. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop that did not just bring new interest to reggaeton music, but also more interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016 compared to two songs from the year 2015. The Despacito album reached its peak commercial success in 2017, 19 songs mainly in Spanish reached into the Top 100. The number grew to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, popular artists began working with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny in the project MIA MIA (2018) while Madonna worked with Maluma in Medellin. In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were complaining about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. But, the younger generation Rauw Alejandro, was keen to push forward the progression. It often featured elements from various genres, as well as electronic dance.
